Sant Bani School Head of School Announcement

On Wednesday, May 29, Head of School Dan Love announced to the Sant Bani School community that the 2024-2025 school year will be his final year at SBS.  Dan has been offered and accepted a position as Superintendent at the American International School of Lagos in Lagos, Nigeria effective August 1, 2025.

Dan has been Head of School at SBS since the 2021-2022 school year.  The early part of his tenure was marked by a search for stability as schools across the world sought a “return to normalcy” as we slowly emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic.   More recently, Dan has guided a forward-looking approach as SBS completed its 10-year accreditation process and crafted a new Strategic Plan, which will be publicly released in June.

Read announcements from Dan and from Katherine Raphelson P’21 ’24, President of the SBS Board of Trustees, that were shared with the community.

Letter from Dr. Dan Love
Dear Sant Bani School Family and Friends,

It is with mixed emotions that I share with you the news that June 30, 2025 will be my last day leading Sant Bani School.  I have accepted a position as Superintendent at the American International School of Lagos, Nigeria effective August 1, 2025.

While Amy and I are excited for this new adventure, we are sad to think about leaving a place that means so much to our family.  We have always held the school in high esteem, and it has been a privilege to serve as the Head of School for the past three years.

At a rudimentary level, a school is simply a collection of buildings; people are what truly make and define an institution.  I will always think fondly of the people I have met and worked with at SBS, each of whom have played a part in shaping the many accomplishments I will remember from my time at Sant Bani School:

  • We navigated the latter half of a global pandemic and its impact on the world as we all sought and worked toward a “return to normalcy;”
  • Our vibrant Board of Trustees is now twice the size it was when I began;
  • Countless people lent their time, opinions, and expertise to both the Accreditation process and the formation of our new, forward-focused Strategic Plan;
  • And, we have undertaken the important work of incorporating Belonging into our Statement of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to ensure that everyone who is a member of our SBS Community feels that they are valued.

I take pride in my time at Sant Bani School because of the relationships I have formed with the students, the faculty and staff, the parents, the alumni who have shared how proud they are to see Sant Bani School flourishing, and everyone else who shares an affinity for the School whom I have come to know. It brings me joy to see Sant Bani School thriving. The fact that so many great people are here is the hardest reason to leave.

My promise to you is that you will have my full attention and care for the School until the moment I depart for my next adventure.  Sant Bani School is a very special place to me, my friends, and my family.  My time as Head of School has been, and will continue to be, a meaningful part of who I am. I will always feel like I belong here.

With Gratitude,
Dan

Letter from Board President Katherine Raphaelson
Dear Sant Bani School Community,

With the deepest appreciation, the Board of Trustees shares the news that next year will be Dr. Dan Love’s last year as Head of Sant Bani School. Dan has been offered and accepted a position as Superintendent at the American International School of Lagos, Nigeria, starting August 1, 2025.  His final day at SBS will be June 30, 2025.

I am grateful for Dan’s highly impactful work in his three years at SBS.  While we are sad to see him leave, we also are excited for him and Amy to be able to pursue this wonderful opportunity.

Dan became Head of School during a time of great uncertainty and instability for independent schools as we navigated the varying effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Equipped with a wealth of experience and perspective gained through his previous administrative roles, Dan arrived at Sant Bani School with a clear vision to guide the School forward.  I have had the pleasure of working with Dan in multiple roles, as both a board member and a current parent.  On a day-to-day basis, he exemplifies what it means to Be Good, Do Good, Be One.  Dan upholds Sant Bani School’s mission and values, carrying forward the ideals we strive to instill in SBS students.  At the same time, he has always been thinking about the future stability of the School and was instrumental in doubling the size of the board, leading the School’s ten-year accreditation process, and crafting the new Strategic Plan.

We have already begun discussing the next steps for our Head of School search.  As a timeline takes shape in the upcoming weeks, we will share more specific details. In the meantime, we look forward to Sant Bani School’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Please join me in thanking Dan for his countless contributions to Sant Bani School and wishing him and Amy the best in their next adventure.

Sincerely,
Kat
